Travel Bucket List

Travel Bucket List

As written in my Instagram bio, I've been bitten by the travel bug.

Even though I'm lucky enough to have explored lots of amazing places already, there are so many more I want to visit!

I've managed to tick quite a few of the European countries off my list, but there are still a couple of cities I want to spend a weekend in. Mr MM and I love city breaks - we've had some brilliant ones in the last few years, including Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Glasgow, and I'm very keen for us to organise some more!

Travel Bucket List

There are however some cities and countries that I'm simply not bothered about visiting, despite being encouraged to do so by friends and family. Thailand, for example - I know it's a beautiful country with wonderful scenery, but I'm personally not as bothered about making a trip there at the moment. Things may well change! But it's not currently top of my list {I admit, maybe I'm crazy.}

I've had quite a varied range of travel experiences so far; from sun-soaked beach holidays in the Caribbean, to backpacking around Egypt, sightseeing in America and climbing mountains in remote Scotland.

Travel Bucket List

I think travel is such a wonderful thing to spend your hard-earned cash on - not only do you get a few days away, but you get a wealth of cultural experiences during your holiday, end up treating yourself a little bit more than you would normally, and the memories are with you for such a long time {especially if you end up blogging about them...}

Here are just a few of the destinations which feature on my Travel Bucket List {i.e. holidays I want to take before I pop my clogs} In no particular order - although I think the first one probably IS my main priority...

I have wanted to go to New York for as long as I can remember. Every time one of my blogger friends shares snaps of them in Central Park, I feel such a stab of envy that I have to close down social media feeds immediately {perhaps a tad dramatic, but you catch my drift}. I want to see the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, and the Brooklyn Bridge; I want to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Fifth Avenue and the Empire State Building {how likely do you think it is that Mr MM will re-enact the scene from Sleepless in Seattle with me?} Most importantly of all, I want to stuff my face with proper bagels and coffee.

I've been warned to avoid this Italian treasure at the peak of summer due to the apparently stagnant smell that surrounds the city... Obviously having never been, I don't know if it's true or not! But a little Easter escape to Venice sounds like a lovely idea. I have a romantic vision of us strolling through the quaint streets hand-in-hand, hopping onto gondolas and eating gelato in St Mark's Square.

I still can't believe that I've never been to Ireland! And because I'm greedy, I want to see all of it. The Giant's Causeway and Killarney National Park are the first things that come to mind, but also Dublin! Is it true that in proper Irish pubs someone often breaks out a fiddle and people start jigging, pint of Guinness in hand? Because that sounds awesome.

My Austrian godmother has told me so many beautiful things about Vienna. I also had a fondness for Eva Ibbotson's books as a child, and I loved her descriptions of the way of life in the city. As big classical music fans, I reckon Mr MM and I would have a fine time snooping around all the musical history - if the famous bakeries don't distract us first...

Sun. Sand. Utter luxury. Need I say more? Waking up and walking a few metres to dip your toe in the clear, blue waters sounds so idyllic. When life is getting a bit stressful, the thought of a getaway to one of the breathtaking beach huts on my Pinterest feed certainly comes to mind.

I think it's slightly unfortunate that Santorini has gained a bit of a reputation recently as a hotspot for bloggers, or as an 'Instagram-able vacation spot'. It's put me off a bit, seeing a sudden rush of the same snap appearing on Twitter and the like, but I've wanted to visit this Greek gem for a long time - so I won't let it stop me! We've spent a lot of time in Corfu, one of the Greek islands, and simply love the way of life there.

A strong contender for our honeymoon destination! We have been talking about a trip to New Zealand for the last couple of years, and get pretty excited about it. We want to see both the North and South Islands, especially Auckland, Queenstown and Christchurch, and I have a very strong hankering to see the famous glow-worms. Does that make me weird? Don't even get me started on the wine tasting, the scenery, and of course, filming locations for The Hobbit. #geek

I loved Canada when I travelled there a few years ago, and will long maintain that Canadians are genuinely the most friendly and polite people I have ever met! On my last trip I went to Toronto which was great fun, but sadly didn't have time to see any of Vancouver. I'm working on persuading Mr MM that we need to go, with constant descriptions of Tim Horton's Timbits to help move things along...

The Golden Gate Bridge. The cable cars. The art scene. The FOOD. There are so many reasons why I want to visit San Francisco! It's a shame it's not on the same coast as New York, otherwise combining them into the same trip would be a lot easier... I have to say though, the whole earthquake thing makes me a bit uneasy {I suppose I should then be applying that argument to New Zealand and the Maldives also...Hmm...}

Mr MM has already been to Barcelona, and I am forever bitter about it. In fact, I think all of my friends have also been. Grrr. I'm determined to sort out a trip soon though. I want to fill up on Gaudí, and also sangria {one of my favourite things about our trip to Andalucia a couple of years ago - how does it taste so great?}

So there you have it, my lengthy Travel Bucket List. If you have any tips or travel posts about any of these destinations, let me know in the comments section! Just try not to make me too jealous please...
