Wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen!

Mr Maggie May and I were lucky enough to find ourselves in the beautiful Danish capital last month: with a few days to spare, and a long-running desire to visit Denmark, we thought it would be the perfect time to travel to this icy, sophisticated city.

With slightly bleary eyes and a strong coffee in hand, we landed around lunchtime and set off for our lodgings for the next few days.

The Andersen Hotel is a darling little boutique hotel in the heart of Vesterbro, the hippest of the hip city districts. With a warm welcome from the moment you step inside, you are guaranteed to have everything you could possibly need from city break accommodation.

Quite a few of you asked where my coat is from when I posted this snap on Instagram {you lovely lot!}; unfortunately it was from Next's AW collection a couple of years ago and is no longer available, but I have posted some links to similar coats {and my luggage!} below.

Having refueled with sandwiches and beer in the cafe at the Nationalmuseet, we spent the rest of the afternoon walking around the city and getting our bearings, with charming shops and twisting streets surprising us at every turn. After a sneaky stop off at Blød Hat for red wine in the most hyggelig of surroundings, we ventured to Cock's and Cows for an early dinner {honestly - the best onion rings ever} and headed to bed, excited for the day ahead. 

The next morning we filled up on the Andersen's delicious breakfast, and set off for a day of sightseeing. There was one place I simply had to put at the top of our list - Rosenborg Slot. 

 

  

A castle built in the 17th century by Christian IV, it is now the home of the Danish royal family's splendours, art and exquisite collections - as well as the Crown Jewels. 

Filled to the brim with beautiful furnishings and tapestries, we were in heaven as we slowly explored each room.

 

With three floors to discover, as well as a basement filled with treasures, there was plenty to see.

With lots to see and do in Copenhagen, it can be tricky to narrow it down and decide what to prioritise - but I would definitely recommend Rosenborg. What can beat the luxury and opulence of a historical royal palace? 

Having worked up an appetite, we decided to stroll across to Torvehallerne, one of the city's food markets, for a bite to eat.  

The Coffee Collective had been recommended to us, so we were sure to try one of their flat whites on our way past.

It didn't disappoint!

And with paper bags from Laura's Bakery clutched tightly against our chests {mine containing a delicious kanelsnegle} we braced ourselves for the cold once again.
