This weekend, we decided to play at being tourists!
I couldn't believe that I still hadn't paid a visit to one of our country's most famous landmarks; home to the jaw-dropping Crown Jewels, and arguably one of London's highlights - the Tower of London.
So on Saturday morning, Mr Maggie May and I met up with two great friends of mine {hall mates from my first year of university - freshers! and all that} and started off with an early lunch and catch up in the New Armouries café - it was, after all, the first time we'd seen them since we got engaged, so there was a lot to catch up on!
Once all news and gossip had been exchanged, we headed outside to soak up the history around us and watch one of the live re-enactments.
Followed by one of the Yeoman Warder tours.
^ Have you heard about the Tower Ravens? There are between six and eight which live at the Tower, looked after by an official Ravenmaster. Legend has it that should the ravens ever leave, the White Tower would crumble and a great disaster would befall England. They have resided there since Charles II's reign, and apparently they feast on biscuits soaked in blood... Yum.
Content with raven spotting for one day, we headed into the White Tower to take a look at the Line of Kings and treasures inside.
We spent so long eyeing up the armour and weaponry that we realised we'd almost run out of time to visit The Jewel House! I'm afraid I can't share any pics from inside {no photography unfortunately}, but I can assure you that it's a must-visit.
We finished our visit off with a quick jaunt around the battlements, and a look at the Royal Beasts.
Ahem, yes. Moving on.
It really is great fun to play tourist for the day, and I am so pleased I finally got to set my royalist eyes on this world-famous site and learn more about its history. Plus, I got to hang out with this lovely pair in our wonderful London.
